John and William W. Renwick letters, 1834-1858.

This collection consists of letters to John and William W. Renwick, written by friends and family members, 1834-1858. Two letters, written by Samuel P. Pressley to John Renwick, describe Pressley's teaching position at the University of Georgia and his impressions of the university, he also expresses his friendship and mentions that he is writing articles for the Southern Christian Herald under the name "Augustine." Other correspondents include: Daniel S. Glenn; Ebenezer Bothwell; and J.T. Bothwell, who writes of goods purchased from Bothwell & Smith, the price of meat and cotton, and mentions that money is scarce. Many of the letters contain family news.

John Renwick (1770-1836) was the son of the Rev. John Renwick (d. 1775) who left Ireland and settled near king's Creek in Newberry County, South Carolina He married Jane Bothwell, a native of Ireland and widow of David Bothwell. John Renwick was a Presbyterian minister. Ebenezer Bothwell was the son of Jane Renwick by her first marriage; William W. (b. 1811) and Rosannah Renwick were children of her second marriage.
